Sloe Bug

Dolycoris baccarum

Description:

Dark reddish brown and stippled with black dots: segments of abdomen banded reddish yellow and black and these are visible beyond outer margins of wings. Pronotum lacks pronounced lateral projections seen in some other shield bugs.

Habitat:

Widespread in Britain and Ireland. Associated with blackthorn and other hedgerow shrubs and feeds on sloe and other berries. Here seen in a suburban garden
