They are very edible and in a week or so I'll have enough to make some jelly.

It's a very sweet fruit, a winter's fruit...It's expensive because people tend to forget those fruit cultivars, so persimmons are somekind rare find in the markets...And it requires patience, because it needs it's time to ripe :)

I have heard a lot about this fruit..grown lots of them in South California..
but they come so expensive in the market..$3 for 2..too high isn't it?

When they look lovely and ripe, they aren't; they are under-ripe then and have a dry sourness that will instantly dry you mouth. Very weird.
They are ripe and wonderfully flavorful when they start to look overripe and gross.
