Cytinus hypocistus
Bright red Buds emerging from the leaf litter, with white petals just showing.
Limestone northwest-facing mountain slopes amongst low shrubbery (including Cistus)
Wikipedia notes that Cytinus ruber is now part of C. hypocistus. I regret this because the plant is such a bright red that ruber seems appropriate. On the other hand the species is apparently parasitic on Cistus species, so hypocistus is appropriate too. Just a pity as hypocistus are yellow too.
