Fun fact! Scientists have discovered parasites living on freshwater ocellate river stingrays that are so similar to those found in the Pacific ocean that they believe that it was originally a marine species. They have concluded that the upheaval of the Andes Mountains 60,000,000 years ago isolated the rays in freshwater rivers, where they have remained ever since.
