Ceylon Cat Snake

Boiga ceylonensis

Description:

A species of colubrid snake found in Sri Lanka and the Western Ghats of India.They are about 4 feet long from tip to tip with the tail 10 inches. They are found in the Western Ghats and Sri Lanka.This snake frequently ventures into human dwellings in search of prey such as gecko. It is falsely believed that Nidi mapila bite causes the victim to fall asleep and die in the sleep. In reality, it is mildly venomous causing only local swelling. However bites near sensitive areas such as the eyes, neck and head could be serious.It has somewhat aggressive disposition and boldly strikes out when disturbed or cornered.
