Common Chameleon

Chamaeleo chamaeleon

Description:

20-30 cm long including tail, was standing high on 4 legs, body raised about 3-4 cms above ground, tail curved upward, swaying gently from side to side and fore and aft, moving forward very slowly, one leg at a time, like a stick insect stalking prey. Made no attempt to run when I got close and even when I touched it. Just moved deeper onto bushes. I saw it crossing the path some way in front of me but was half in the bushes when I got the first shot.

Habitat:

Volcanic semi-desert, bushes close to water
