Unnamed spotting

Notes:

Found him in the leaf litter in my backyard. He got warm sitting in my hand and got very active and I enjoyed him very much before sitting him safely in the woods. I made a short video of him crawling on me.

Definitely a baby box turtle!

I assure you he is a box turtle :) This is a hatchling, the proportions aren't the same as an adult would have. The head is likely too large at this age to be able to fit completely inside the shell. If you Google "eastern box turtle hatchling" you will find images that look just like yours.

He's not a box turtle. I have them in the yard all the time. Unless I'm mistaken, box turtles can close their shells completely. This little fellow can't. His head stays open.

What a little cutie! Welcome to Project Noah too :) If you need help adding the video, let us know! Have a look at our FAQ, it explains a lot about how the site works and can answer most questions you may have. If you have any other questions, just comment on your spotting and hopefully someone will see it, if not then just comment on a rangers spotting and they will get back to you :) www.projectnoah.org/faq
