California Root Borer Beetle Larva

Prionus californicus

Description:

A large and somewhat freaky looking white grub. This one is about 3 1/2" when fully extended.

Habitat:

Underground near or on tree roots or bored into the crown.

Notes:

According to Utah State University, these larva stay underground for 2-3 years before metamorphosis. They become a large dark brown beetle.
