Spear Thistle produces many seeds with fluffy appendages which help it spread very effectively using the wind, seed may travel for several kilometres.
This species doesn't compete well for light and nutrients with other plants and takes advantage of bare, disturbed ground where other plants are yet to establish.

Looks a lot like Spear Thistle, Cirsium vulgare.
