Cottontail Rabbit

Description:

-I saw this rabbit in my backyard around spring 2012. -This rabbit changes in color within the seasons; white in the winter, and brown in the summer. It is also gains in weight during the fall in preparation for the winter. -Another species that lives in the same environment is a squirrel. -Rabbits have a symbiotic relationship with humans. It could be called commensalism or parasitism. The rabbits eat grass from humans lawns. -The rabbits turn white in winter to camouflage in the snow. Fur keeps the rabbits warm in the winter. -Rabbits use sexual reproduction. They reproduce very fast in comparison to other mammals.

Habitat:

Rabbits are very social. They live in colonies called warrens. They go into vegetated patches of land during day and large prairie fields at night to feed. Grass, leaves, buds, tree bark, roots. They will also eat other vegetables like lettuce. Birds of prey are the main predators.
