Chrysomelidae
A Spotted Tortoise Beetle is a species of Leaf Beetle (Chrysomelidae) in the Tortoise Beetles and Hispines Subfamily (Cassidinae). Conchyloctenia punctata can sometimes be found on Morning Glory (Ipomoea spp.). Unlike other tortoise beetles, this species lacks the translucent rim surrounding the wing casings (elytra). A characteristic feature concerning the larvae of this beetle group is that they stack their faeces and previous moults onto a fork-like appendage near the posterior end of the body. This creates an extended tail, used for predator deterrence. reference Candide.com
