Description:

Cattle race typical of the center of Spain and Portugal. In Portugal is called Preta. Tradicionally they pass the summer in meadows of the mountains of the center of Spain, such as Sierra de Gredos, Sierra de la Paramera, La Serrota, Sierra de Villafranca y Sierra de Ávila. The will stay in "dehesas" from spring to automn. Before the winter they traslate to Extremadura, to lowlands. Actually there are around 145000, of which 110000 are females dedicated to reproduction. It is a race dedicated to meat production that has survived to more intensive races adapting to very unproductive terrain as are the mountains in central Spain. It has uniform black colour. The horn are elongated and curved forward with the point pointing down. It measures 135 cm and weights 550-600 kg the female and 900 Kg the male.
