I find similar one on muddy path on hill top.... one was crushed near to it where I find this.... and placed on host plant....

Hawk Moth Caterpillars... These hungry giant guise go any direction to find feeder host plant.... and many go to wrong turn to get road killed under other's steps....and hunted by predators....

This is a caterpillar. A lateral view would be helpful for ID, but Spodoptera ornithogalli is a good candidate.
