India Unicorn Boxer Mantis

Hestiasula brunneriana

I have spotted this stunning mantis in the organic garden at my home. Where My garden is an habitat for many of the Karnataka's mantis species. Due to organic method its biodiversity is very rich. This Indian Unicorn boxer mantis was first observed by Gopakumar VR Namboothiri in forest of Ramanagara, Karnataka 562159, India on July 6, 2016. I guess it is Adult female Hestiasula .

My garden provides natural habitat for most of Mantis of Karnataka. It has Hierodula patellifera, Schizocephala bicornis, Humbertiella ceylonica. Odonto mantis, Mantis religiosa and Empussa guttula etc.All photos are taken by me in my garden

It always surprised me with sightings of unique creatures..I was very amazed when I saw this creature... Completely camoflauged in Nyctanthes arbor-tristis(Queen of the night-Har singar-Night Jasmine) When I noticed it I was aware of genus Hestiasula for specie confirmation I contacted my friend Mantis expert Mr Andrew Pfeifer and William Di Pietro and got confirmed the sp. Manjunath Nayak Environmental Scientist BNHS-KARNATAKA
