A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Ursus arctos middendorffi
A sow and two cubs running through the long grass. The grass was so high I didn't notice the cubs until a few minutes of watching the mother and I finally saw their little bouncing ears in the grass. The first spotting of a Kodiak Brown Bear on Project Noah.
Large field near where a couple streams meet the ocean. Some late-running salmon were still near the mouths of these rivers so they were probably looking for fish
Kodiak Brown Bears are one of the two largest bears in the world along with the polar bear. They are often twice the size of many other brown bears. They are especially fortunate to live on an island with plentiful salmon, wild berries and other edible plants, with only a tiny portion of the island is inhabited/accessible by road.
