Thanks both Mariana2 and arthurhoughtby. I concur with Marian2, that this is a Pholiota squarrosa. The new book I just bought, The Book of Fungi" by Peter Roberts and Shelley Evans, mentions that the Pholiota aurivella is sticky, slimy to the touch, which this one was not.
