Well if at one time it was moist in the year I still think Common Reed.
VineWorld, it was near a wetland, but the area itself was rather dry.
If found in a swampy area it's probably Common Reed; Phragmites australis (possibly subsp. americanus).
Thanks for the suggestion. Are they introduced/invasive?
