Datana perspicua
these caterpillars acted very aggressive towards anything going near them. they will release a form of toxin from thier mouth to warn off predators. they have 6 yellow stripes going down the body and white hairs that stick up off the body. these caterpillars eventually become a species of monarch butterfly. about 3-4 cm in length.
they live in web cacoons with many of other caterpillars in oak trees.
these caterpillars are very aggresive and are becoming an issue in north carolina because they are devouring oak trees.
