Tucano-toco

Ramphastos toco

Description:

It features 56 cm long and weighs about 540 grams, being the largest of all toucans. Do not show sexual dimorphism: the plumage is uniformly black crown on the back and belly. It has a yellow bare skin around the eye and eyelids are bluish. The pappus is white and often tinged yellow. The uropígio is white and underneath the tail feathers, forming the Crisso, is reddish. The most notable feature of the species is the yellow-orange beak large, which can measure 22 cm. The beak is composed of cancellous bone, a structure not forming massive and sanded as a honey-comb. This makes the beak lighter and therefore does not hinder the flight. The tip of the jaw has a large black spot
