Jumping Spider

Hentzia sp.

Habitat:

Saw on box in the garden section of a retail store. it was skittish, hyper and both crawled and jumped. Think it's a jumping spider. Read there are over 5,000 species! It was VERY tiny - maybe an 1/4" long.

Thank you again! I remain so grateful for this sight; and to those who participate with it. I LOVE learning about science, and sharing photos. Thanks again!

Thank you for bringing that up, Laura. I might not have caught it otherwise.

The genus page states that only H. palmarum and H. mitrata are found outside of Florida. Its range covers most of the eastern US, which Virginia is a part of. I find it odd that only Florida is listed on the page I linked.

Anyhow, no other jumping spider resembles H. mitrata, so I'm certain that's what it is.

Thank you, ZackSaavedra. I too think it is some kind of Jumping Spider; but have yet to figure out which one. The bug guide link says the Hentzia mitrata is in Florida only. This spider was in Virginia.
