Common Water Snake

Nerodia sipedon

Description:

Snake from Southern Indiana

Notes:

Almost stepped on this snake that was lying in a creek bed. It was about 4 ft in length and easily swam in the slow moving current in the stream. Do not know if this was poisonous or not. Does its bite cause any issues? I have seen this snake swim upstream in shallow waters twice. The stream bed had lot of frogs that were hiding half buried in sand and catching thin blue dragonflies as they sat on sand. Cottonmouth, Water
