Semi-punctated Belid Weevil

Rhinotia semipunctata

Description:

My wattle tree has lots of different weevils on it. The Brisbane Insects website said that it looks like a true weevil family member but its antenna is straight and not clubbed.

That is one crazy excellent weevil. Weevils are from several families of beetles with antennae near the end of long snouts. Mr Chew is kind of correct to say its not a 'true' weevil but it IS a weevil. I love the problems we scientists and field naturalists encounter when we try to put nature in categories. It works well - sometimes. There is ALWAYS an exception because these guys are always evolving and pushing our rules.
