Fishing Spider

Dolomedes tenebrosus

Description:

This large spider was found in the crawl space under the house. I believe that it had just shed and was resting and letting the exoskeleton harden. Passive spider. Photo #3 shows defensive posture. Photos #1 and #5 show size comparison to my hand. Large spider with brown, gray, black coloration. Dark around the eyes. Distinct patterning on the abdomen.

Habitat:

Initially found in a walk-in crawl space under a house. Neighborhood with small areas of temperate woodland and freshwater streams.
