This nymph may be from the genus Acanthocephala. They appear to be fairlly widespread and can be found in Texas.

Note that this is not a beetle, but is instead classified as a True Bug in the order Hemiptera.
This is a nymph of a leaf-footed bug from the family Coreidae.
