i concur, def a striped skink
It does resemble a skink. It looks similar to the Wahlberg’s Striped Skink, Trachylepsis striata, but I am not confident that it is that species. I am not very familiar with South African lizards. I feel like yours has more red on the sides. I hope this helps.
