Panay Orange Tarantula

Orphnaecus sp.

Description:

This species appears closely related to Orphnaecus philippinus formerly Selenobrachys philippinus from Negros Island, however, from Panay Island, this will be an undescribed species.

Habitat:

I personally spotted these Theraphosid specimens in Dingle, Panay natural park with an area of 854.33 hectares along a 40 kilometer-trail rainforest. Temperature was 84 degrees F with 73% humidity.

Notes:

I released the specimens back in the wild right after taking photos.

Hi Karen, it's an undescribed species (as of the moment) it maybe a relative of O. philippinus aka Philippine Orange Tarantula that can be found in Siplay, Mambukal, Negros. This is around 4 inches DLS - Diagonal Leg Span and very aggressive it is surely is an old world Tarantula.

I lived on Negros Oriental for many years. How big is this tarantula? You mentioned it's a new species for your location , but didn't let us curious folks know the particulars of this beauty --- size, how aggressive, etc.
