Horned Ghost Crab

Ocypode ceratophthalmus

Description:

This sea crab has body as big as a golf ball and it can ran sideways at a top speed of 20 km/hr. We use to enjoy chasing these crabs during low tide . It is locally called Agurokoy in our local dialect. It feeds on small fish, shrimp and dead left overs found around its territory.

Habitat:

It lives under its burrow on coastal sand.
