Sea cucumber ( family Molpadiidae)

Molpadiidae family . Genus= Molpadia, Species=?

Description:

translucent pod shaped invertebrates brought in by the tide and beached on the sand. about 3cm long has what appears to be an oral opening at one end, encircled by short radial projections. does not swim actively. floats with the tide. able to elongate body shape into a slug shape but contracts into a rounder seed shape when touched. simple digestive tract seen through the skin. hundreds are deposited on the beach. ?to breed? to die? Update: November 6 2014 Locals call these sea cucumbers Bronok

Habitat:

west coast of Malaysian peninsula.

Notes:

Unlike most sea cucumbers, this species actually floats and are frequently caught in trawler nets. (^ ^) Big Thanks to my marine biologist friends Liyana and Hasmah for the ID!

Sea cucumber from molpadiidae family.

Unlike most sea cucumbers, this species actually floats and are frequently caught in trawler nets.
