Description:

A short, stocky heron that is most active after sunset. Lives near wetlands, lakes, and other bodies of brackish water. Found throughout North America and many other parts of the world. Conservation status is LC (least concern).

Notes:

It was bathing itself in our community pool in Foster City, CA. Maybe it's a black-crowned heron?
