Alice - yes, they eat the berries. Large flocks of birds (mostly Waxwings and Robins) will descend on the bush and strip them clean within a week.

It's very rare here in Georgia. We have ice like this maybe once every decade.

Winter beauty trapped in ice!
This happened in WA last winter when we had a big snow storm and freezing rain.
