Spotting

Description:

This looks like a South/Central American Cichlid to me, but I caught it in a minnow trap in the ditch out back in southeast Georgia..

Habitat:

large ditch/small creek that connects to good size pond. Kingsland, Georgia

Notes:

Is this an indigenous species? Or did someone let Cichlids loose? Either way what is it specifically?

Is that Cristian Fountain Creek? It does look like a Cichlid though. I wonder what it could be?

I'm not familiar with fish from your area, but take a look at these two possibilities and see what you think:
Bluespotted Sunfish: http://fishesofgeorgia.uga.edu/index.php...
Dollar Sunfish: http://fishesofgeorgia.uga.edu/index.php...
Will be curious what you come up with for an ID!
