Katydid

Description:

Some kinds of strange bug I found today. About 3 inches long and can climb.found near a small forested area in suburbs.reminds me of a mantis.

Nice find! I agree that this is a species of Katydid, Family Tettigoniidae. This one is a female. You can tell because she has an ovipositor (the flat, curved thing that extends from the end of her abdomen). It is used for laying eggs.
