What a great spotting Seema! This is so strange, i can't find a flat-faced rodent with teeth that big.
This is NOTHING like any squirrels around, not a california ground squirrel! at all. I'm still saying an invasive species. Looks Asian or maybe South American. Any Rodent specialists out there help, I'm very curious!

very true...there was a big colony of burrows.....saw several of these critters active at work...distinct mounds of soils in the grassy lawn..
Wouldn't want him digging up my garden, looks a little viscous. Maybe invasive?
