Flat Spider

Family Selenopidae

Description:

This large (about 3 cm long) very flat spider was on the floor of a cement outhouse. It is a spider of the family Selenopidae called Flat Wall Spiders or Flat Crab Spiders or just "Flatties". They are subtropical to tropical and can be found on walls, but occur naturally on tress and rocks.

Habitat:

Chorreadero Park above Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, Mexico.

Thank you so much Chun for the identification. There is a species of this spider in Oaxaca that runs about on the walls and I am fascinated with it. It was even flatter than this one was.
