Guyana Giant Grasshopper

Tropidacris collaris

Description:

The adult grasshopper was huge, about 4 inches long. I believe the other attached pictures are immature stages of the same species.

Habitat:

The adults were flying around in the grassy/brushy fields near the Kaieteur airport. The immature grasshoppers were feeding on plants in a damp area near the airport building at the edge of the woods.

Notes:

I think this is Tropidacris cristata.
