Banana Plant

Musa acuminata

Description:

Contrary to popular belief, banana plants are not trees, but giant herbs, which reach there full height of between 10 and 20 feet, after only a year. A banana, is an edible fruit, botanically a berry, produced by several kinds of large herbaceous flowering plants, in the genus Musa. The fruit is variable in size, color, and firmness, but is usually elongated and curved, with soft flesh rich in starch, covered with a rind, which may be green, yellow, red, purple, or brown when ripe. The fruit grows in clusters, hanging from the top of the plant. The banana plant, is the largest herbaceous flowering plant. There were two banana plants that I saw. There large leaves, were green in color..

Habitat:

Today, banana plants grow in the humid, tropical regions of Central and South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia, where there are high temperatures and rainfall.

Notes:

Around 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon, I was riding my bicycle, looking for different things to photograph. I came upon, two, large banana plants, next to a wooded area. Both of these banana plants, were tall and wide. There large leaves, were green in color.
