bee?

Description:

Many insects come to drink in the pool, not sure why as it is salty. Lots of them flounder but eventually escape, but there are always a few in the filters when we clean them.

Habitat:

Came to the swimming pool for a drink.

Hi Lauren. The antenae lenght is never used for bee taxonomy (except for very few cases). In fact, long antenae are a typicall feature of male bees (like in this case). Besides, Sweat bees are never so hairy, and most of the times have metallic colorations. I really doubt this is an Halictid bee.

This could be a Sweat Bee of the Family Halictidae, based on the long thick antennae.

Malcom, I will agree with you on this one. I think it is a bee of some type. It looks furrier than a honeybee. Not sure what type it is at this time. It's very pretty.
