Euonymus Scale

Unaspis euonymi

Description:

Very small Armored Scale insect. Females have a dark brown, oyster shaped, shell. Males have a white, elongated and ridged shell. Nymphs, also called crawlers, are pale yellowish-orange with no armored covering.

Habitat:

Infesting the leaves of a large shrub (probably Euonymus) in a backyard. Commonly infests cultivated and ornamental plants.

Notes:

I thought that this was a fungal infection on the leaves at first. I was quite surprised when I finally looked at the photos on the computer screen.
