Arizona Black Rattlesnake

Crotalus cerberus

Description:

Medium sized adult, found at noon in the shade in ambush. As I approached to get a shot, a lizard ran away from me and was struck by the snake. The lizard escaped and ran up a tree. The snake smelled around for a little bit before giving up and going back into ambush position. I was able to get very close during all of this without disturbing the snake, and got a poison ivy in the process :)
