Various small mammal skulls in Zambia
Please consider adding this to the Bats of Africa mission http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/2464...
I did a little more research, these are small insectivore bats. However with over 1000 species of bats worldwide and about 70 in Zambia it is difficult to tell a species. Hope this helps!
These are not meerkat skulls! (Although that was my first thought too!) They look like bat skulls, but I am not as familiar with small African mammal skulls. Now that I have an approximate size I will look into this a little more for you!
Great shot and thanks for adding this to the mission!
Hi, Rebecca. Whenever you spot something that's FROM an animal (such as feces, tracks, a skull, a nest, etc.), it can go in the category for that animal. Since these belong to mammals, I've gone ahead and have moved it to that category for you. :-)
Yes they can fit in the palm of your hand, if I remember correctly they were about 5 cm. there not meerkats as they are not in the area in which they where found
That book sounds like something I'll have to pick up too Ava! Thanks for the recommendation!
Cool spotting Rebecca! How small were the skulls? Could they fit in the palm of your hand or were they larger? And please please add this to the Osteology Mission below!
That's quite a collection! There's a recent book out called Skulls: An Exploration of Alan Dudley's Curious Collection by Simon Winchester that I'm planning to read soon. You can tell so much about an animal's behavior from its skull.
Can you tell us the story behind this spotting? Also, it doesn't really belong in the Nests, hives, bowers mission, but can you add it to Identifying Animals though Osteology http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8475...
