Prosopis cineraria
Prosopis cineraria is a flowering tree in the pea family, Fabaceae. Ghaf (Arabic);Sangri (Rajasthan) and Vanni (Tamil) are common names. It is the state tree of Rajasthan (India)
It is native to arid portions of Western and South Asia, including Afghanistan, Iran, India, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. I found this in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India.
What assured me of the ID I elected was the illustration at .google.co.in/imgres?q=prosopis+cineraria&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&tbo=d&biw=1024&bih=629&tbm=isch&tbnid=lOJrruAQky2NcM:&imgrefurl=http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx%3Fflora_id%3D5%26taxon_id%3D242341383&docid=s5VLuGZzDxWQSM&imgurl=http://www.mobot.org/mobot/PakistanImages/36-Mimosaceae/Prosopis_cineraria.jpg&w=2100&h=1755&ei=WvMFUd_nPIzwrQfq3ICgDQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=737&vpy=121&dur=16504&hovh=205&hovw=246&tx=157&ty=142&sig=108875805765036106547&page=1&tbnh=144&tbnw=173&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:5,s:0,i:97
Dear RubyPrakash, Seema and Argee Bee, I favoured Prosopis cineraria, instead of Prosopis velutina mainly because of the geographical distribution and the finer details in drawings. I have quoted an illustration in the 'notes' area. Thank you RubyPrakash, Seema and Argee Bee.
