Cooper's Hawk

Accipiter cooperii

Description:

This bird was flying low and fast over a swampy field before perching on this tree. After about a minute the bird hopped down onto the ground. The wing shaped looked like a kestrel, but I wasn't certain.

Wide banding on the tail makes it an Accipiter sp., likely Cooper's Hawk, Accipiter cooperii. The amount of white on the scapulars also rules out Kestrel.
