Mephitis mephitis
It is black except for a thin white stripe on the forehead and two longitudinal white stripes that fork from a white patch on the crown of the head and nape of the neck and continue along the upper sides to the rump. It measures up to 32 inches.
Striped skunks occur throughout Minnesota but are not common in the northeastern coniferous forests. It occupies a variety of habitats but is generally not common in forest or extensive lowlands where the water table is close to the surface. It favors fencerows which may support a high concentration of mice.
Spotted near the swamp area of South Tamarac Lake along north Cotton Lake road. It was digging up worms and insects.
