Mule Deer

Odocoileus hemionus

Description:

Young deer, probably around 1 year old. Believe it was a small female.

Habitat:

Group of 3-4 deer that are seen around Chetwynd, usually the Centurion Creek area in town. Mostly Aspen trees, with coniferous mixed in.

Taken from my bedroom window when I woke up with my iphone.

@forestdragon Thank you for the fix on that! I didn't get a look at his tail so I was just guessing because we tend to get more white tailed around town. Next time I will be looking at the ears when I can't see the tail though! :) Thanks again!! :)

Hi Alycia, I just love this spotting! Those wonderful ears! I believe this is actually a Mule Deer, Odocoileus hemionus. White-tailed Deer are not blessed with those amazingly large ears.

I don't know if you were able to see this animal's tail, but they have different markings on their tails than White-tailed Deer.
