Monarch Butterfly

Danaus plexippus

Description:

Back in 2006 this was the first photograph taken of a female monarch butterfly in our Fullerton, CA. garden.

Habitat:

This picture was taken before we were a monarch waystation, number 5375 www.monarchwatch.org Providing a habitat for butterflies is simple and fun for the whole family. All you need are the host plants the main food source for the caterpillars and the butterflies will come.

Notes:

Monarch wings are made up of many tiny scales. They become transparent as the sun shines through, just like a stained glass window.
