Staurois natator
Hi kirkybit, well done. You have updated your spotting properly and it looks a lot better. I would like to suggest, to make it really complete, that you could go to edit one more time and just put a few words in the Habitat box to mention where you spotted the frog. That would be just perfect.
Hi kirkybit, this is another really good spotting and I have been trying to identify it for you. I think I have identified it correctly, but I have not yet sent you a Species ID Suggestion because there are one or two points that I would like to bring to your attention. I think your spotting is Staurois natator - the Mindanao Splash Frog. According to Wikipedia, it is endemic to the Philippines. That would be just perfect, if that was all the information that I found, but the following points make the ID slightly more complicated. There are some spottings on Project Noah which are called Staurois natator, but some of them are in Malaysia. If it is endemic to the Philippines, it cannot be present in another country. Then, when I looked in inaturalist.org for Staurois natator, I saw around 30 to 40 photos (all called Staurois natator) and they all look different. So, the points I want to clarify are...does this frog have variable markings? and is it really endemic to the Philippines? I will try to research some more and let you know what I find, but now that you are aware of the possible problems, I will send you a Species ID Suggestion and maybe you would like to check it and see what you can find.
