Juvenile southern bald eagle

Haliaeetus leucocephalus leucocephalus

Description:

Juvenile bald eagles are a mixture of brown and white; with a black beak in young birds. The adult plumage develops when they are sexually mature. It takes about five years for their head and tail feathers to gradually turn white.

Habitat:

spotted flying over the Indian River

Notes:

It took me a second to recognize this bird as a young eagle (turkey and black vultures are a common sight over the river.) It was at the next dock when it was set upon by a crow and chased out of sight into the fog.
