Horse

Equus caballus

Description:

The mare of my my neighbor gave birth to its foal.

Habitat:

Plains, farms, meadows

Notes:

The introduction of the horse in America is attributed to Columbus on his second voyage performed in 1493 on the island of Santo Domingo. Later the horse was introduced in 1534 in the captaincy of São Vicente, and D. Ana Pimentel, wife of Martim Affonso de Souza. Thereafter the horse was introduced in Brazil and at different times, 1808, D. John VI came to Brazil bringing its stable of Alter Real (a horse race). This breed has played an important role in the formation of our best saddle horses: Mangalarga and Campolina.
