I'm not really sure about the varietal name but I think the species might be correct...the leaves look like yours.

It's in Belize on a horrible dirt road and I'm in Oregon(on a not so horrible dirt road!). I specifically took the pics because the leaves looked so much like pennyroyal that my first thought was, "look pennyroyal, what weird flowers." There is no doubt they were attached. It was dry with sparse foliage and nothing really underneath either. Our guide was looking for a pair of owls and I was terribly bored(and a touch disgusted with him) and thus was looking at flora

I have to think that is just an illusion and the Mimosa leaves are just underneath the others...can you get back to the site easily? The buds & flowers are mimosa I'm pretty sure....possibly a different species.

except the leaves which resemble a member of the mint family: pennyroyal
