Common Greenshield Lichen

Flavoparmelia caperata

Description:

This foliose lichen is a pale yellow/green with many lobes, which are about 3-8mm in width.

Habitat:

Deciduous and conifer forests. It is one of the most common lichens in our area. Most lichens are slow-growing. The common greenshield may grow up to 5mm per year.

Notes:

This area of northern Minnesota is a hotspot for lichen diversity due to its climate and the diversity of habitats.
